The City of Asheville has given Broadway Commons preliminary approval to operate its residential units as an Inn.  This gives Broadway Commons a unique asset in Asheville’s competitive tourism market:  fully furnished short-term, pet-friendly rental apartments with the comforts of home, including full kitchens, outdoor space (decks and/or rooftops), laundry facilities and other amenities not available in hotels, motels or B&Bs.  Broadway Commons will offer the only units of this type within easy walking distance of downtown Asheville, the Asheville Botanical Gardens, and UNCA.

Asheville has a proven track record with a stable tourism market to support the Inn.  Annual hotel sales in Asheville have increased from $11 million per year in 2003 to over $17 million per year in 2007.  Additionally, Frommer’s Travel Guides designated Asheville as one of the top 12 global travel destinations for 2007, signaling a strong demand for short-term vacation rentals.

Asheville’s population growth provides another source of support for the Inn.  The Asheville metro area is distinct in that more than 95 percent of local population growth is from in-migration.   This influx of new residents is a natural source of customers for the Inn, since many are likely to be seeking short-term or long-term accommodations while investigating the possibilities of relocation and/or searching for a new residence.

Sustainable Construction

Broadway Commons will incorporate green technology and sustainable building supplies to the fullest extent possible.  Every effort will be made to maximize environmentally-friendly approaches to construction and operation of the project.  The entire complex will be smoke-free, the courtyard and driveways will utilize permeable paving so the land can continue to breath, active and passive solar energy will be incorporated into the building plans, and energy efficiency will be top priority from the choice of CFL lighting to energy-efficient appliances in all units.
